Nepal unveiled ‘smart’ driving licence that have chips to store driver data among other security features. ecretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Tulasi Prasad Sitaula and Madhu Sudan Burlakoti, director general at the Department of Transport Management said the government has signed an agreement with India’s Madras Security Printers to change the existing driving license. Last March, the DoTM and Madras Security Printers Pvt Ltd signed the contract for printing 160,000 smart cards. In the contract, DoTM has also asked the company to install all the networking devices. The new system will also link to an electoral system as part of a 150 million Nepalese Rupees (US$1.5 million) grant assistance plan from the Asian Development Bank.
