School life
Sher Dhan received primary education from the village itself. He studied up to grade seven at Sikhsya Jyoti Lower Secondary School. He was good at study and was also fond of volleyball. He started playing volleyball from the early age of ten and grabbed district champion title in few years.
He played in the regional volleyball tournament on behalf of the remote hill district. His maternal uncle, late Dhikalsingh Rai who served in the British Gurkha, had gifted him volleyball for his fondness for this sport. Rai cherishes those moments even today.

After the grade seven studies, he had to go farther to attend higher grade school. So after he completed lower secondary education, he enrolled in Sagarmatha Secondary School Godhetar, which is situated in Ranibari VDC. Since it was far from his home, he rented a room there and stayed in Ranibari itself. Rai passed his SLC from this school in 1986.
