New Zealand and Bangladesh gear up to face off at Eden Gardens on Saturday (March 26) in a ICC World T20, 2016 match that will not have any bearing on the points table. The Black Caps are the only team to have qualified for the semi-final so far and they will be keen to extend their dominance in the tournament and end the group stage unbeaten, while Mashrafe Mortaza’s side will be hoping to end their campaign with a consolation win.
Clinical is a word that best describes New Zealand’s showing in this T20 World Cup. Martin Guptill has been the only half-centurion for the team so far, but not relying on individual performances and putting their collective strength on display is how Kane Williamson’s team have gone about things. Most of the batsmen have contributed with important knocks, although New Zealand will be hoping that some of them push on and make it a big contribution.
Bowling has been New Zealand’s biggest strength in this edition of the World T20, with the team defending totals successfully three times. The spin duo of Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi has been exceptional, picking up 13 wickets between them and at an economy rate of less that six. With Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan and Corey Anderson faring well in the seam department, New Zealand do not have too many problems when it comes to their bowling attack.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, have not been able to carry forward the form they showed in the build up to the tournament and in the qualifiers. When they had no answers to an aggressive Pakistan unit that had turned out on March 16, what followed was a spirited performance against Australia which came in a losing cause, and a choke that saw India break out of the jail with a one-run win.
